Contact us at: Charles@floridacontractors.net

Contractors must meet the following requirements in each renewal cycle, regardless of how many times you have taken these courses in the past! Each contractor is required to complete the full 14-hours of C.E. each renewal period. After the mandatory “core” courses are completed, the remaining hours of C.E. may be completed by taking any course(s) approved by CILB provided that the total number of hours taken is 14-hours or more.

Q: What subject matter must I take?

Seven specific areas need to be addressed. Each contractor is required to take one hour each of:

  1. workers’ compensation,
  2. job-site safety,
  3. business skills,
  4. advanced code,
  5. wind mitigation, (a new requirement for 2009 renewal)*
  6. laws and rules, (a new requirement for 2009 renewal),* and
  7. eight hours elective.

* If you take your classes from another provider, make sure that these two new courses are offered.

Effective September 1, 2001, we, as providers of continuing education, are required to electronically submit to the State the names, license numbers, courses taken and the dates of attendance of all contractors who attend continuing education classes. This information must be transmitted within thirty (30) business days of satisfactory completion of the class.

Q: What does this mean and how will it affect me?

All providers of C.E. are required to upload a database of class participants within thirty (30) business days to DBPR’s website. Contractors who fail to meet the C.E. requirements will not be allowed to renew their licenses.

Q: What is the deadline for my C.E. hours?

The deadline for certified contractors to complete their continuing education and renew their license(s) is August 31, 2008; for registered contractors to complete their continuing education and renew their license(s) is August 31, 2009.

* 14 hours of Continuing Education is required of each Certified and Registered Contractor in the State of Florida
