The board that actually governs all construction in the State of Florida is The Construction Industry Licensing Board. Their website is fairly well organized and gets updated on a regular basis. Florida Construction Board Homepage

If you wish to verify the status of any one in the State you can look them up on the State of Florida's verification website. You can look them up by name, business name, or license number. Verify a License
FORMS
If you need to change something about your license in Florida there are certain forms that must be used. Failure to use the correct form will cause delays. Make sure you have the correct form.
If your license is in your personal name and you are a sole proprietor or operating under a ficticious name, and you wish to have your license under a corporation or llc. you will need this
form.
I you are currently qualifying a business and you wish to put the license back in your personal name and operate as a sole proprietor you will need this form.
If you currently qualify a business and wish to change to qualifying a different business (not an additional one) use this form.
If you are qualifying a business and you wish to qualify an additional business, you will need this form.
If your license is currently inactive and you wish to activate it, you will need this form.
If your license is currently active and you wish to place your license on inactive you will need this form. We do not reccomend taking this action, prior to placing your license on inactive status, please call us.
If you qualify or are attempting to qualify a business that you are not the primary owner of, you are required to have a financially responsable officer and in addition to the change of status form you will need this one.

NEW FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT. Beginning November 1, 2007 all applications for initial licensure as construction contractors will be required to have a criminal background check performed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. This requirement applies to applications for initial licensure, change of status, additional business, and endorsement. Each applicant will be required to submit electronic fingerprints through the department’s vendor Pearson VUE (formerly Promissor). The fingerprint fee is $57.25.
