WORKERS COMPENSATION
In 2003, the legislature passed new laws and regulations concerning Worker’s Compensation. These laws have had a significant impact on those in the construction industry. Contractors need to insure that they are in compliance while paying the lowest possible premium. This course covers the compliance as well as the latest NCCI filing.
SAFETY
O.S.H.A. has stepped up its inspections and more contractors are dealing with the cumbersome task of complying with the rigid inspection and abatement process. Understanding what to do during and after a safety inspection is critical.
BUSINESS PRACTICES
Florida Statute 409.2576 requires that all new hires and re-hires be reported to a central database within 20 days of their hire date. Even though this has been a law since 1996 compliance has been minimal in the construction industry.
LAWS & RULES (New Core Code Requirement)
Every contractor should be familiar with the laws that govern contracting. The primary statutes are found in Chapter 489 part I. This course concentrates on the statutes that concern the proper business set-up and compliance.
ADVANCED CODE
The Florida Building code is an evolving document that is updated on a regular basis. This course introduces the contractor to the most recent changes in the building and structural areas.
WIND MITIGATION-(New Core Code Requirement)
In October of 2007, a new law came into effect concerning the mitigation of wind damage to existing homes in Florida. A new Continuing Education requirement also came into effect that now requires the addition of a 1-hour wind mitigation course to be part of the 14-hours for certain contractors. Insurance companies are now required to offer reduced cost insurance for anyone qualifying for the program as well.
Course B: 7hrs. $120.00
Construction License, Leasing Employees, Judicial Update & the Recovery Fund
• Communication between a construction professional and the construction board is cumbersome at best. There really isn’t an easy way to get quick answers to some basic questions. We have compiled a list of questions and answers from the State’s website in an effort to answer the most common questions.
• The Florida Construction Recovery Fund has evolved over the years. It now only impacts Division I contractors, for example. The process of filing a claim through recovery is covered in this one-hour segment.
• In recent years a trend has developed in the construction industry that involves the utilization of leasing companies. This section weighs the pros and cons of leasing your employees and answers the commonly asked questions.
• We live in an ever increasing litigious society. Every day courts decide what is acceptable and what is not. This portion of the course deals with recent court decisions that concern contractors. Pay when paid clause, No damage for delay and Statute of limitations are just three of the issues covered.
• Whether we like it not, we as contractors must have a working knowledge of the Lien law. This update covers the most recent changes and their implementations as it affects.
